Dominican food is a blend of fresh produce and spices. Also, it is a blend of Spanish, African and Taino cuisine. Common ingredients in the cuisines include rice, beans, plantains, pork, chicken and seafood. The food is also described as "Comida Criolla" or "Creole Food." Creole cooking consists of white rice, black or red beans, plantains, and occasionally pork, goat, or to a lesser extent beef. Beans are a very important part of the dominican diet, they are a good source of protein for those who cannot afford meat.
When ever you order food from the Dominican Republic, you'll notice the Spanish influence of course but most of the time the menus in the resorts are adapted to satisfy tourists with modern food.
